Startup Mentoring
I am happy to share that the #startup mentored by me made it to the finals of Ventura ’21 (E-cell of NIT Trichy).
Mentoring is a mutually rewarding and wholesome relationship.
Startup mentoring is a challenging and time-consuming job. Particularly early-stage startups require unwavering commitment and varied skills of engagement.
Itโs important to remember that mentoring is not a magic wand that automatically creates success. However, seeing new founders walking smoothly on the road towards success is an uplifting experience. It’s a long journey although.
State of the CIO Survey
๐ก68% of CIOs say that creating new revenue-generating initiatives is among their job responsibilities, according to CIOs “State of the CIO Survey”.
The top activities that CIOs are engaging in themselves are as mentioned in the image below. While automation is top of the CIOs list for a few years, it seems that after moving to the cloud and creating LCNC platforms, CIOs are moving towards deploying advanced technology to take advantage of platforms they have created.
CIOs who are driving new revenue are:
๐ Delivering technologies designed to meet specific business outcomes
๐ Unlocking dataโs potential
๐ Co-creating with their business unit colleagues.
๐ Embedding themselves in the business.
๐ Seek out opportunities

The Era of Quiet Vacationing
In today’s busy corporate world, there is a sneaky change happening. The old idea that you should always be working hard and available all the time is starting to fade. Instead, a new way of doing things is emerging, especially among younger workers. A recent study by Harris Poll found something surprising: 83% of millennial workers admit they take paid time off without asking for it officially. This is what they call “quiet vacationing.”
Taking vacations quietly is about more than just having fun. It is a clever way for millennials to take a break from work without looking lazy or uninterested. Unlike younger Gen Z workers, who often speak up about what they need at work, millennials have found sneaky ways to rest without causing any fuss.
There are a few reasons why quiet vacationing is becoming popular.
- First, there is a lot of pressure to always be reachable and ready to work. People worry that if they take time off, others will think they are not committed.
- Then, there is the fear of leaving too much work for their colleagues.
- And on top of that, there is the worry of missing important moments or chances to grow at work.
With more and more organisations are calling for โBack to Officeโ (BTO or RTO), it is no surprise that millennials will resort to this technique to avoid hustle and bustle of corporate culture.
The fact that most millennials and even peoples in 30โs are resorting to this subtle tactic shows that something is not right in the way we work. For a generation that values being real and does not like unnecessary rules, quiet vacationing is just a way to cope in a work environment that does not fit their needs.
Instead of seeing this trend as sneaky, companies should see it as a sign that things need to change. Businesses that let their workers take care of themselves without judging them will see big benefits like more creativity, better work, and stronger loyalty. Those that support a good balance between work and life will not be surprised by stealth vacations. They will see it as a sign of a team that is ready to come back stronger after a break.
Some corporates are trying to make one or two weeks of continuous leave as mandatory however majority are not ready for long leave of employees.
Quiet vacationing shows that millennials will not give up their personal lives just to work all the time. They are determined to find a balance. And it is up to companies to change and make that balance a normal part of work, not something people have to hide.
Trying to always look busy has made a whole generation find sneaky ways to take breaks. But if companies understand how important it is for people to take time for themselves, they will see big improvements. Having happy, refreshed workers will make a huge difference for any company that is ready to change.

The Great Resignation
“The Great Resignation” Period!!! ๐
Yes, most of us are encountering this in our organization (primarily software/IT) as attrition has increased by 100% reaching through roof up to 40% to 50%. The stories of employees having multiple offers in hand and backing out on joining day are like the expected phenomenon for 5 out of 10 candidates. Not to mention new joiners absconding in less than month’s time…
Practical Strategies to Retain Employees The average cost of replacing an employee is 21% of current salary. That shows the margin impact on the companies..
What one can do to retain ๐ employees???
I came across this must-read article ๐ก, shared by my colleague Amit Malhotra which highlights some strategies

that should be implemented, if not done already. I have summarized the article into this infographic for quick reading. I am sure if one implements few strategies from this article, one will control the attrition to a certain extent..!!!
What is your view as an employee or employer?

The Ortus Club Dinner
It was a pleasure joining Senior IT executives from different industries for “The Ortus Club – Executive Knowledge Sharing Session” in Mumbai for discussion on Digital transformation. The discussion was a continuation of recently hosted session in Hong Kong, Delhi and Bangalore.
The session captured views on digital transformation maturity levels around experience, intelligence & velocity in the journey over good food & dinner. It was very well moderated by Venugopal Arcot and Nathalie Tousignant.
It was attended by Utpal Chakraborty, Ashish Parampurath, Deepak Anand, Ekta Ghosh, Mayuresh Purandare, Neeraj Sahgal, Nirav Shah, Rajendra Mhalsekar, Rakesh Bandlamudi, Ravi Kumar, Rituja Singh, Udayraj Prabhu, Aashish Kshetry, Harishankar Maurya, Sandeep Sawant and Gulshan NARULA.
As I understand from ServiceNow team, the views were quite contrasting compared to what was shared in Delhi. In Delhi, it was more of AI & ML, whereas in Mumbai, overall key driver & objective for Digital transformation journey was Customer Experience.
It was really an interesting experience to learn from the different leaders.

Not new, but I found numbers amazing and amusing.. โจ
India is way ahead of developed economies. Perhaps, there can be an argument that because of a large population, the numbers are so high. But, so is China whose numbers are 65% of India’s numbers despite similar population and whose economy is in top 3 in the world.
With the literacy rate of Indian adults standing at 70%, these numbers speak about how quickly economy may grow because of money changing hands rapidly and how easy must be payment technologies and apps for common person.
Indian government is overseeing the real-time payments reforms for a decade now and 200+ big and small banks are supporting it. With several reforms in offing and payment startups scaling up, this number is only going to grow exponentially..
Agree???
