Due to competitive data rates offered by mobile operators at night, teens & young adults are increasingly using digital media at night, which has resulted into higher risk of poor sleep and depressive symptoms. Experts recommend avoiding exposure to blue light before going to bed, yet 91% of 18 to 24 year olds admit to regularly using such devices before going to sleep. Experts recommend switching off their digital media devices off at least one hour before bedtime.
According to one of the professors working on such kind of research, having less than seven hours of sleep is not good for health. Getting less sleep than the recommended hours might cause a plethora of problems from the weight gain, heart related diseases to even the deadening sickness of cancer.
However, there seems to be a way to check your mobile before going to bed & get even good night’s sleep. Another study suggests that by simply lowering the brightness of a smartphone screen or tablet settings and holding the gadget 14 inches away from the face can stop the light from interfering with a good night’s sleep.
Recently, survey had finding that 9 out of ten young adults using gadgets may not get enough sleep as a result of light from using their smartphones and tablets before calling it a night. As you might be aware, phone & tablet screens emit short wavelength blue light, which interferes with the production of melatonin, a hormone needed to control sleep patterns. Due to this, lots of people are unable to get sound sleep at night.
