5G at a glance

We all have been reading a lot about the launch of 4G in India.  The air is filled with buzz as many types of debate and discussions are taking place.   Today articles are being written on what will happen in terms of pricing and completion with the launch of 4G by one of the major telecom players. This made me wonder what will come next after 4G. Is 5G waiting for us in offering?

With this curiosity, I surfed the internet to discover the when, what, who and where about 5G.

Did you know that although 4G was launched in 2008 in US, standards for 5G have not been completely defined yet? As per the authentic news, 5G is likely to be agreed on and defined in next couple of years. Not only that, it is also expected to be codified and rolled out in the subsequent years. So, here I am, taking the liberty to guess what 5G might consist of.

It is obvious that 5G has to be faster than 4G. But, the question is how much faster it will be?

Some of the features that are expected to be available in 5G are listed below-

• Several gigabits per second for tens of thousands of users
• Super-efficient mobile network by removing data transmission redundancy
• Power-efficient and power conserving technology
• Significantly Reduced Latency

Doesn’t it Sound Great?

Considering that 3D movies will become de facto standards in 2030’s, it is expected that 5G technology will be fast enough to transfer 3D movies at a blazing speed. 5G will be faster than 4G by several times, probably 40 or 50 times. 5G will also significantly help in IoT (Internet of Things) and it will considerably change the way we lead our normal as well as digital life.

There is a grapevine that 5G experiments will start in South Korea during 2018 winter Olympics and it will be available for the commercial use from the beginning of 2020. I can’t wait to see how our lives will be affected by another gigantic  venture. Can you?
